I have to ask - Who told you that white text on a black background was easy
on the eyes? That person is a bit of a sadist - or jokester.

a logic professor told me. But anyhow, perhaps white on blue is
better(like WP 5.2). Regardles of colors chosen, the same principle
applies to chanign the border colors. any ideas?

I won't get into the whole background color thing, in order to change
the color of the borders and the grid, you will click on Table |
Properties | Borders and Shading | Borders | Color. You should be able
to change the color of your borders and grid there to any color you
desire. I hope this has been helpful to you.
