Table continued line

I have a table that has Heading Rows Repeatin. The table runs several pages long. I'm trying to add a line of text above the table on each successive page. I'd like the line to read: Table X.X (continued). Can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

You have to split the table into two at the bottom of the first page.

On the second page, copy the header row in.

Add a blank row to the remainder of the table, above the header row and
write your continued line in there.

Now select both rows and turn on Heading Row Repeat.

The continued line and the Heading row will now be replicated to the
remaining pages of the table.

I have faced this problem many times since the infernal Information Mapping
began to package "Information Design" in lines and boxes :)

I have always taken the view that readers who need "Continued" and
"Continues" lines probably can't read well enough to be reading the book.
So I don't put them in. I believe they simply add visual clutter.

But that's how to do it, if you have to.

Cheers

Hi John,
Thanks so much for the info. I tried what you said an was able to split, copy, add row, and repeat to remaining pages. It seems that if I now edit the table on page 1, it doesn't flow into the second page. I guess that's the result of the split...? Seems like I ought to wait until the very end of the approval process and then do the spilt...correct?

Hi Gini:

Thanks for adding your name: it's so much more fun dealing with real people
:)

Yes, sadly you are now discovering why I give my clients a real fight if
they want to do this to every table :)

Further excitement awaits you when you try to get the captions working:
unless you are careful, you will get each table you do this to listed twice.

You have, in fact, converted it into two independent tables, and as you have
now noted, they do not flow from one to the other.

I share your pain :)

Cheers
