Table disappeared and changed to text

I was working with an excel spreadsheet embedded in a Word document when the
table disappeared and changed to coded text; specifically " { EMBED
Excel.Sheet.8 }" It is gray. When I right click on it I can work with the
table, but I'd rather go back to working right on the Word document. Under
Tools there is a convert text to table, but its grayed out. Also all of my
documents with embedded spreadsheets are doing the same thins. Even Auto text
is now text code. How do I go back to "normal"?????

In Word, press Alt+F9 to switch between display of field codes
(what you see now) and field results. If that doesn't help, then
in Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck the boxes
for "All", "Hidden text", and "Field codes" | Print tab | uncheck
the "Hidden text" and "Field codes" boxes | OK.

Thank you garfield-n-odie, The Alt F-9 solved the problem. Have a big piece
of lasagna for yourself!
