Table grid lines

Are they ruled lines? Word 2002 sets up a ruled table by default, called
Table Grid. Go to Table | Insert Table and then Autoformat. Scroll down the
list until you see Table Normal. You may want to set this as the default too.
Does this solve your problem?

If they are gridlines, then from the Tables menu, select Hide Gridlines. If
they are borders, place the selection in the table and then hold down the
Ctrl and the Alt keys and press u.
