Table is set to center but it shows in left side!!!!

J

Jack

Hi,
I have a problem to position in the center 3 last tables shown on that
page:
http://www.phonedialerpro.com/faq.htm

The tables are set to Center but in Preview and in the browser they appear
on the left side!!!
Other tables on the same page display properly.
What can be wrong?

You need to set the alignment to center using the Table Properties dialog, not via the alignment
menu icons

You are wrong.
I have not used >alignment menu icons for the table
Please just load it into your FP and see it for yourself or just check the
source.
What I did:
Mouse right click on table> Table Properties>Alignment = Center.
And the table is centered when in design stage.
It moves to left side when run.
Thanks,
Jack

I opened your page in FP, and set the master table to center, and it did so.

Check your cell width properties compared to the table width properties.
Some of them don't add up right.

Also, learn to be a little more diplomatic in your replies when people are
trying to help you.

Yes you have! Because the table properties are set at default, and not centered, but the alignment
menu icon for centering is highlighted. This is why it will not be centered when view in the
browser.

Thomas,
With all the respect, if I mouse right click on the table in question and
Select Table Properties I can see Alignment set to CENTER not to default (as
you are saying) in my FP 2002.
I do not understand why you see the same set at default?
Are we talking about the same thing?
Jack

T

Tom Pepper Willett

Suggest you once again check your cell/row properties. They don't add up,
and that will prevent your tables from rendering properly.

Good luck.

Tom,
According to your advise I have corrected the cells width in the
2-nd table counting from the bottom.
I posted it on web. It still does not show in the center.
BTW, why the cells width did not add up? Not only they did not add up but
also they were mixed:
some have width in % and some in pixels.
When I designed that page I never set the width manually. What I did was:
- Insert table
- Merge some cells
Shouldn't FP take care about the cells in that table to add up?
It would be very odd if the designer had to manually adjust (insert) proper
cell width to add up to the table width?
Thanks,
Jack

J

Jack

I've made some experiment.
I did:
- Select table (the table in question)
- Copy
- Paste into new (blank page).
- Set Table Property > Alignment> CENTER

In Preview window table is properly displayed in the center, but is has the
same wrong values for the cells which they do not add.
What takes?
Jack

Thomas A. Rowe

Starting with the first table on the page (How to prevent dialer from being loaded on Windows
startup?), I viewed the table properties for each table, all are set to default.

Same for the 2nd table
Same for the 3rd table
Same for the 4th table

and so on

Can someone else confirm that, PLEASE????

Something basically is wrong here.
I am not sure, how do you do that, Thomas.
What I do is:
1. To make sure we are watching the same thing I downloaded that page to my
FP.
2. Select Table
3. Mouse right click on it and click on Tables Properties
4. I can see:
Alignment = CENTER
Float = DEFAULT

I can see that for ALL the tables on that page.
I am using Front Page 2002.

Can you say what do you do to see Table Alignment = Default?
Jack

T

Thomas A. Rowe

I am not looking at you main/base table, but the individual tables that you have inserted.

I browse to your page in IE, then I use File Menu | Edit with FP to look at your page.

I am NOT talking about main/base table.
I think it is clear from my responses. I am talking about nested tables
inside the main table.
I told you how I read alignment property for those tables and asked you to
tell me the same.
By somehow you are avoiding straight answers to my questions, but I am
trying to figure out why you see differently the same thing I see it.
Jack

T

Thomas A. Rowe

I said, I am not looking at your main base table properties, I am looking at the individual nested
tables.

I select each individual nested table, then I right click and select Table Properties, then I see:

Alignment = DEFAULT
Float = DEFAULT

This is what I current see for the first nested table:

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="10" width="321" style="border-collapse: collapse"
bordercolor="#111111">
content deleted
</table>

This is what I should see if you set the alignment via table properties:

<div align="center">
<center>
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="10" width="321" style="border-collapse: collapse"
bordercolor="#111111">
content deleted
</table>
</center>
</div>

Ok.
So now after so many times asking you, I know that you deduct that by
viewing the html code.
Why, then you did not try EXACTLY as I did just to confirm my observations?
We have had some discrepancies and why not to find the source of it?
Why don't you display table properties by clicking on Tables Properties
menu????
If you do that you will see that the tables alignment is shown as
CENTER!!!!!
Why it is so?????
Jack

J

Jack

Lets start from another angle, then.
You are saying that ALL my nested tables are set to default.
Let assume that it is true (although I insist I see them all set to CENTER).
Why then, all nested tables on that page are shown in the center except the
last 3 tables?????
Jack

Check your "main" table. Alignment is set to Default.
Set it to center and everything centers.
