Table Normal style question

When I come across a table that refuses to be controlled (such as I cannot
set desired column width no matter what I do), I apply Table Normal style and
then do what I need. However, all the underlining of the original table is
removed and all the text in the table becomes top aligned. Is there any way
to choose/control which settings of the Table Normal style are applied?

has numerous parameters prompted for from the IDE.
