table not in append query list

I've got a very simple append query to do but the table I want to append to
is not in the drop down list when I select append query and I can't figure
out why. All my other tables are there and the table design looks fine. I
can add data if I just want to type it in. I've got an autonumber in there
as my key but I've done that before. ?????

It was orginally an excel spreadsheet that was imported in - maybe that is a
clue to the problem?

I am sure there is a simple answer but I can't figure it out.

Sorry to say there has not been any satisfactory answer.

Would you post some info about your database so I can see if I can make the
same problem appear on my system?

--Names of the tables used for the query where the table name won't
appear.
With each table name please include
--name of primary key,
--data type of primary key,
--name of any foreign keys,
--relationship between the tables involved.

The name of my table that won't appear is called "full list". The name of
the primary key is "ID" and it is an autonumber. There are no foreign keys
and there are no relationships (it is a brand new database).

I tried a whole bunch of things - copy/pasting tables, and renameing tables.
And came to the conclusion that it is always the first alphabetical table
that is failing to appear. Weirdness. But I guess now I know how to work
around it.

I have verified that this is indeed what happens when I create a new
database using A2003.
I set up a test where I created 3 tables.
I deleted the first table and found that the table which was previously
listed second - now the first alphabetically - would not show to choose for
an append query.

I renamed the tables to change their order alphabetically and still found
that the table at the top of the list would not appear in the list of tables
to append to.

I have never noticed this in all the years I have used Access.
As it has been asked 3 times lately, I suppose that it is normal - but I
just never noticed it.

I was unable to reproduce this behavior using Access 2003 SP1 and Windows XP
SP2. I tried both Access 2000 and Access 2002-2003 format databases.

What OS version are you using and what version of Access 2003? Is the
database you are using in Access 2000 format or in Access 2002-2003 format?

using Windows XP with all automatic updates and A2003 with all updates - SP3
with hotfix.
Using A2003 in A2000 file format.

I just checked on my development machine which is not connected to the
internet and only has A2003 SP2 with WinXP.
When doing an append query, all tables show in the list of tables to choose
from.
This new behavior in my SP3 + hotfix computer could be an SP3 thing.
