Table of Contents Word 2003

We have various objects in a long document which are aligned using some of
the text flow options. Below these objects we have inserted text boxes so
that we can give a description for those objects e.g. Graphic 1 - ... etc.

Now we need to insert a table of contents that include all the text in the
text boxes. We have the problem that we cannot give one style to all of these
text boxes as they are all different in size and when you select the style to
the other boxes the alignment etc. changes, besides Word doesn't seem to
recognise them anyway as long as they are in a text box.

Is there any way that we can create a table of contents that lists all the
text in a text box? We tried to select 'caption' as a heading style but it
just doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Word cannot "see" a paragraph style in a text box for the purpose of
TOC creation. Fortunately, you can convert a text box to a frame:
there's a button on the Text Box tab of the Text Box dialog box.

In future documents you might want to do the following whenever you
need to insert objects with captions: As you insert an object, make
sure it is positioned "In line with text". Then press ENTER, so that
the inline object is on a line by itself. Select
Insert>Reference>Caption to create the caption. Finally, select the
two paragraphs and use the Insert Frame button on the Forms toolbar to
add a frame around them.
