Table: table grid vs. normal

hi all,

wxp pro sp2, office 2003 sp2,

the problem:
i am encountering a big headaches with some of the tables that i have (162
tables last count). i noticed that after deleting/pasting certain tables,
word repaginates (even though some of the table did not occupy more than a
page). i noted (so far) that repagination happened only with those tables
where the style and formatting box (the one on the top right, in one of the
toolbars) showed 'table grid' and no repagination if the style and formatting
box showed 'normal'.

the queries:
1. what causes some tables to have 'table grid' format while others to have
'normal'?

2. how can i convert table grid -> normal.

with regard to 2, i tried simple changing format to normal but it only
changes the text, when select the table again, it showed 'table grid'.

i realised that repagination could be a symptom of document corruption but
at this stage the option of redoing the document is not on the card.
additional i've tried changing to html and back, without any effect on
repagination presence, it still occurs.

appreciate help and advice.

thank you,
jes

If you copy a Table Normal table from a document in which Table Normal is
the default table style/AutoFormat and paste into a document in which Table
Grid is the default, I think the result is what you see. If you're pasting
them into the same document, it might still reflect the default style.
Ctrl+Alt+U in a table will remove the borders, which are the only
distinction between Table Grid and Table Normal.
