Tables and Styles

Help!

I am having problems with Word 2002 and Table styles. I suspect my problem
is unsolvable (a design feature no doubt), but I am interested if anyone out
there knows of this problem:

Table styles will not control font (name or size) or paragraph (space before
/ after) settings.

1) No matter what I set for the font or font size in a table style it will
not apply to a table. What it does show is the normal style font and size.

2) If I use "Reveal Formatting" with "Distinguish Style Source" it shows me
the table font style, and then shows me the normal style (which of course
will have something else - in my case Arial 10).

3) However, it does let me apply bold or italic attributes; including by row
etc.

4) And all the other table attributes (border, shading, cell size, indent,
etc.) are handled beautifully. JUST NOT FONT OR SIZE.

5) I also have exactly the same problem with paragraph formatting space
before and after. But I can get past this by setting normal to zero and
zero - and then the table style will work.

If so much works so well with table formatting - why not the font?

If this is a bug, how do I report it? (without paying for a microsoft
support call)?

Many thanks in advance,

Nic.
