tabs in numbered table fields

Matthias R.

Hello and a belated happy new year.

I use Word 2010, the goal is to sequentially number the rows of a table
=> have numbers for every row in the most lefthand column of that table.

So I highlight all fields of the mentioned column, and use the numbering
dropdown in the paragraph section of the ribbon's "Home" tab to pick one
numbering format - the one that gives me 1. 2. 3. etc.

So far so good.

Unfortunately I am not getting 1. 2. 3. only, instead it gives me 1.->
1.-> 2.-> (imagine "show formatting symbols" being set to "on").
There always is a tab following the dot. I want NumberDot, not NumberDotTab.

How do I do that?

Thanks - Matthias

You have to modify the list format. Click the list number (you'll see that
Word selects all numbers). Right-click and choose Adjust List Indents from
the context menu. Make the desired changes.

Indeed. Thanks.

You are welcome.

As a long-term solution, use a numbered *style* to get more control over the
numbering. For example, you can customize the built-in List Number style.
