When i do;

=degrees((tanh(1))

i dont get 45 a i would expect.

any ideas?

Tanh is the hyperbolic tangent... I think you wanted the arctangent. This
works as you were expecting...

=DEGREES(ATAN(1))

Why would you expect 45?
Have you reminded yourself (with Excel help, if necessary) of what TANH is?
TANH(1) would be =(EXP(1)-EXP(-1))/(EXP(1)+EXP(-1)), which is not equal to
PI()/4, so DEGREES(TANH(1)) will not be 45.

Are you sure that you didn't mean =DEGREES(ATAN(1)) ?
