Task Assignments in PWA for Local Resources

David F-H

We are using MS Project Server 2007 and I am the system administrator, and as
such am responsible for setting up resources, new projects and also
performing the initial imports from .mpp files into Project Server. When I
import a project, I then edit the project properties in PWA and select the
real Project Owner from the drop down list (instead of myself). However,
where a project has local resources I find that all the tasks related to the
local resources are assigned to me (under My Tasks) - note that in the actual
project plan in Project Centre they show the actual local resources against
each task.
I assume that they show up on My Tasks in PWA as it needs a "known" PWA
resource to assign the work to for the purposes of notifications, etc. My
question is how do I reassign these to the new Project Manager so that they
no longer appear under My Tasks for myself? There is a Reassign button under
My Tasks, but wouldn't that also change the actual resource names in the
project plan as well ?

Further to this, I find that the local resources I refer to appear to have
been loaded in the Resource Centre, which means they are actually now
enterprise resources? I didn't explicitly add them in, so I assume that they
were automatically added when I imported the project plan (.mpp file) using
the "Import Project to Enterprise" wizard ??

Can someone please shed some light on all this behaviour?

David:

The reason why you are seeing the assignments on your My Tasks page is that
the resources do not have a default assignment owner set. Therefore, the
system makes you the assignment owner because you first published the
schedule. It does sound as though you chose to import the local resources to
the enterprise rather than keeping them local when you imported the
schedule.

Thanks Gary,
I think I understand what has happened now - when I imported the plan, I
must have left the Import flag next to the Resources as "Yes", and so they
were automatically set up in Project Server. It is a little confusing since
the prior "Map Resources" step has 2 options, either map to enterprise
resource, or keep local. BUT keep local really doesn't do that unless you
click "No" on the subsequent screen against each local resource.

I have now set the Assignment Owner for these resources to the appropriate
person, but the original imported tasks are still assigned to me so I suppose
I will need to go into each one and reassign one by one !
