task dependency switch

Something odd happened in Project. Bug? or something I did?

Always, if you want to have task 6 have a FS relationship with task 5 one
would put 5 in the predecessor column of row 6. That is Project 101.

Well, oddly my schedule did a switcheroo. In order to have a FS
relationship between tasks 5 and 6, I now need to put 6 in the predecessor
column of row 5.

Bert288gto,
One of two things comes to mind. First, if you add more tasks to the
file, Project will automatically adjust the task ID numbers in the
Predecessor and Successor fields to maintain the schedule logic. Second,
if you are looking at the Unique ID or Unique ID Predecessor fields
instead of the normal ID and Predecessor fields, you could very well see
what appears to be "strange" link logic. Make sure you are looking at
the right fields.

Project does NOT change linkages on its own. It's just an application
that responds to user input.

Hope this helps.

Well that's unique. Are you by chance entering the value in the "UniqueID
Predecessors" field instead of the ordinary "Predecessors"?

Hi,

Looks to me that you are using the Successors field in your table. Have you
really read the name of the column? Could there be a chance that anybody has
changed the fields?

Does it say "Predecessors" or does it say "Successors"? If the first is
true, then hover your pointer over the name, a tool tip should appear with
the "real" name of the field, make sure this is the field you want to use. If
it is not, just edit the table, or simply insert the right field and hide the
other one.
