Rick Valentine

I in in the process of creating alarge project planusing
MS Project 2003. I will have several tasks that will
span months but are nto full time tasks. I want to
allocate a set number of hours against these tasks and
then assign resources to work against those tasks but for
only those said amount of hours.....well I have tried to
allocate the resource percentages to a lower
percentage , but it seems like everything I do makes
project adjust the total task hours.....I want fixed
hours for these tasks......how do I do this..this is
frustrating.....

Sounds like you need to set your project and/or tasks to
Fixed Duration or Fixed Units and turn off the "Effort"
check box.

Do the following:

1. Double-click the task
2. In the Task Information dialog, click the Advanced tab
3. Set the Task Type as Fixed Work
4. Click OK
5. Click Window - Split
6. In the Task Form, assign resources using a Units and Work value and
click OK
7. Microsoft Project will calculate the Duration for you
8. If you readjust the Duration, Microsoft Project will recalculate the
Units value

Hope this helps.
