task/events not shown on time

I am using Outlook 2002 (I thought it was the XP edition). This
morning when I turned on the machine, Outlook came up and showed an
event that was due YESTERDAY, except yesterday it never showed that
event under Outlook Today either. Actually, that event was initially
set to be due on December 27 (1 week ago), and just today (Jan 1) it
finally showed. I won't bore you with details of hardship as a result
of missing this event and its due date. What the f#$@ happened?
