Task Pane won't stay

I've got a couple of users who actually like the Task
Pane, but it won't actually stay on. The option is
checked for show at Start up. When Word (Excel too)
opens - the Task Pane appears for a split second, then
disappears. It works fine in PowerPoint though. Any
thoughts?
