Task requiring overtime

In order to limit production downtime, a particular task for my project must
be completed using overtime.

Work = 620 man-hrs
Resource = 6 men at 100% with a normal working schedule of 4-(10hr) days/week.
Project Calendar = 4-(10hr) days/week (Monday - Thursday)

I would like to set up a task without nailing down particular dates (floats
if the schedule changes) to complete the effort by working 12 hr days through
the weekend and into the next week until the task is complete.

What is the best way to structure this task? I attempted to use a task
calendar but couldn't get Project to schedule work on Friday, Saturday, or
Sunday.

Create a new calendar and assign the calendar to only that task.
Tools/Change Working Time... then select new. Make the new calendar
12hrs/day 7 days per week.

To assign a calendar to a single task, open the Task Information Dialog Box
(I double click the task), pull the advanced tab and assign the new calendar.

That's half of it. You need to do the same with the employees specific
calendars from the resource sheet view. You need to make them available for
the 12 hour/7day shifts as well. Note that project will respect the Task
calendar of M-Th x10 and not schedule the work on Fri, Sat, Sun even though
your workers are available. 12x7

Jim,

I appreciate the help.

Question: When assigning the 12x7 calendar to the task, how does selecting
"Ignore resource calendars" affect matters? If this is selected, do you have
to make adjustments to the resource calendars to allow them to work on Fri,
Sat, and Sun. Does this selection not force the task work to be completed
based on its specific calendar and to not be dependent on specific resource
calendars?

Hello jbecton,

Yes, you are correct. Selecting the option "scheduling ignores
resource calendars" would schedule the task based on the task
calendar, overriding the resources' calendars.
