Task updates page

Using Project Server 2007 + SP2 + April 2009 CU.
When a resource assign a team task to himself/herself the grid in the Task
Updates page seems to hang for the project manager who's receiving the task
update. The message "Loading grid..." is showing but the grid including the
task update doesn't appear. It's hard to explain, but it seems like this only
happens when the project manager's most "recent" incomming task update is a
team task assignment (a resource clicks "Assign team task to me" in the Team
Tasks page and possibly report time on the same task). It doesn't matter if
we open the task updates page in PWA nor in Project Professional. No errors
in the queue - no errors in the server's event log. I'm quite sure we didn't
have this problem earlier. Is this a bug or have I done anything wrong?

Rikard:

Yours is not the only report of this behavior post SP2, so I'd recommend
installing the August CU to see if it improves the situation. Otherwise, you
can open a ticket with Microsoft, and watch the news groups and blogs for
updates.

Unfortunately the August CU didn't solve our issue. We've opened a ticket
with Microsoft. Thanks!

We just installed SP2/AugCU on Friday, and started see the same problem yesterday. I think it's related to the new 'feature' that automatically submits blank Task Updates to PMs for resources that are assigned to incomplete tasks and haven't submitted a Task Update themselves. (At least that's what EPM seems to be doing.)

For one of the two PMs that reported this problem, I was able to trace it to an old project that he hadn't closed out properly. He had removed the remaining work, but left the % complete at 76%. I updated the project to 100% complete, set the resources to committed, published, and the problem is gone.

I suspect that the 100% solved the problem, but I'll be confirming this on the second PMs projects. This PM is new, so the error may even be caused by something else.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you encounter anything.

Hallo,

it is some time ago that you wrote these posts. Perhaps MS has already
helped to solve that issue?
I saw this issue yesterday for the first time and found your posts searching
a solution. Later on I could identify the situation on our system:
User changed remaining work in PWA to 0 and there was no actual work on this
assignment. I was able to reproduce it with these parameters. Resolution:
identify this task in database, delete status update by changing field
publish to "No" and publish project. After that task update page is working
properly.

Perhaps there are also other circumstances causing that behaviour.
Fortunatley I could identify mine in the published database.

According to the Microsoft technician the problem we're experiencing is a
documented issue and will probably be fixed in the next Service Pack.

NOTE: ...the problem WE'RE experiencing = the team task issue. I don't know
if the problems you're experiencing will be fixed.
