I have Proj Pro 2002 and Proj Server running many
projects. When users go to the TASK view, they are only
allowed to update the '% Work Complete' 'Remaining'
and 'Text1' on the left side of the grid. The 'Actual
Work' timesheet grid is deactivated and users cannot enter
data. I have the administrator responsibility for the
server but am not familiar enough to know where to go to
change the settings so that daily time can be entered in
the right side of the grid. Please provide laymans
instructions for changing this setting.

Thanks

To solve this problem, your company will need to complete two courses of
action. The first course of action will be performed by you as the Project
Server adminstrator:

1. Log into Project Web Access with Administrator permissions
2. Click the Customize Microsoft Project Web Access link
3. Click the Tracking Settings link
4. Select the "Hours of work done per day or per week" option
5. Select the "Force project managers to use..." option to lock down this
method of tracking progress
6. Select the "Resources should work their hours worked every day" option
7. Click the Save and Close button

The preceding steps will set the default tracking method for every project
in your environment. The second set of steps will need to be performed by
every project manager for EVERY project that has been published:

1. Open a project
2. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
3. Click OK

The second set of steps will "push" the new method of tracking to each
user's timesheet. Again, this must be done for every published project.
Also please note that if anyone has already entered progress on a task in
the % Work Complete column, then that task will not accept the new method of
tracking progress, and the team member will need to continue entering
progress on that task only using the % Work Complete method until the task
is complete. All unstarted tasks will show the new method of tracking
progress. Hope these layman's instructions help. :)
