Tasks appearing on web as read only

Republishing ALL tasks for my project, results in the tasks appearing
in web access (Task page) as read only. My permissions have not
changed, and I am the owner of the project. This now happens to any of
my projects which I republish, indicating that something has been
corrupted within my settings or permissions.

Hi Dale,

Initially we couldn't enter progress in any of the columns in the task
list or the timesheet grid. We have since found your article in the
forum that took us through a process of resetting the "Specify the
default method for reporting progress on tasks" to "Hours of work done
per day or per week.....". Whilst we had limited success by doing
this, we're still having problems.

We now have selected tasks that are read only, whilst others allow
time to be entered in the timesheet grid and/or the task list.
Unfortunately they remain as read only if any time has already been
entered against them.

We have changed our domain in the last few weeks, could this be
contributing to our problems?

Thanks,
Fiona.

If you changed your company's default method of tracking progress, did you
also "lock down" this method on the Tracking Settings page in PWA? This is
so that your project managers cannot select their own method of tracking
progress in the Microsoft Project plan by clicking Tools - Customize -
Published Fields. If you did not lock down your method of progress, you
probably should do so.

After you selected a new default method of tracking progress, did you
republish the assignments in EVERY project? To do so, open every project
and click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments and then click OK.
Doing so will "push" the new method of tracking progress to each user's
timesheet in PWA.

In addition, you should know that the tracking method will only be changed
on tasks in which no progress has been entered. Those tasks that appear to
be read-only are probably tasks where a % Work Complete value has been
entered by the team member.

Now, answer a few questions for me and then I will have a solution for you
on how to "unlock" those read only tasks. First of all, how many projects
do you currently have in your portfolio of projects? How many of them are
published? About what percentages of tasks have had progress updated by
team members in PWA using the old method of tracking progress? I need to
guauge "how far down the road" you folks are with your implementation, and
then I can give you an answer. Let me know.

Hi Dale,

I found a posting yesterday that helped solve our problem. After we
had changed our company setting for default method of tracking
progress and locked this method down, we then needed to save all
effected projects offline, delete them from project server and
re-import them as enterprise projects. This forced all tasks to adhere
to the new rules and not just those without time against them.

Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Fiona.
