Technet Evaluation Software - can't validate

D

Dana Brash

Hello,

Thanks for your response.

I'm sorry that I wasn't more clear previously. Regardless whether the
source of the issue is technical or legal, the issue itself is in
relationship to product activation and is therefore a licensing question.
As such, this licensing question falls to Customer service to manage, even
though the specific problem that you're having may very well be related to
your DVD.

It seems like you've done a fair bit of deductive work with this issue, and
I would recommend that a next step may be to call Customer Service and
discuss the issue with them. They will be able to provide you with the
best next step.

Thanks very much for your understanding, and please have a nice day.

Best,
Dana

Thanks for your reply.

I disagree that this is a licensing matter.

If I go to microsoft.com/genuine and validate windows, it passes on all 3
computers.
Now, if I insert the Technet evaluation DVD and try to install IE7 beta or
Small Business Accounting, the first thing it does is try to validate the
software. Duh, didn't I already do that, isn't there a file saved? Anyway, it
decides it wants to run the validation test again, this time it fails.

So if it can validate one way but not through the other (both of them
Microsoft schemes), then there are three possibilities:
the website scheme is correct, the DVD is incorrect it refuses a genuine
windows version;
the website scheme is incorrect it passes non genuine windows versions, the
DVD scheme is correct.

Further deduction on my side (three genuine Windows XP Pro machines), tells
me the DVD scheme is messing up.

The DVD scheme is actually probably something that runs through the browser,
using some activeX whatever.

question. Customer service should be familiar with any validation and

address this issue. You can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday,

I am trying to install the evaluation version of Small Business Accounting,
as it comes with the Technet Plus subscriber package. Every time it comes
back with an error message saying there was an unknown error validating
Windows.
I have tried it with IE7 beta, and Small Business Accounting, on 3 different
computers, all give the same error message.

Now interestingly, when I just go to microsoft.com/genuine and initiate the
validation from there, it validtes fine and I can download Antispyware and
the Calculator.

Why does validation work one way but not the other?

Thanks in advance for your help.

DVD scheme is correct.

Further deduction on my side (three genuine Windows XP Pro machines), tells
me the DVD scheme is messing up.

The DVD scheme is actually probably something that runs through the browser,
using some activeX whatever.

Hello,

Validation is a function of licensing, so it isn't really a technical
question. Customer service should be familiar with any validation and
licensing issues and can assist you directly.

Since this question is a licensing issue, and I am focused on technical
issues, I feel our Microsoft Customer Service would be better able to
address this issue. You can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday,
6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific time) to speak directly to a Microsoft
licensing specialist, and you can get more detailed information from there.
Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing
Sites to find contact information in their locations.

For detailed information on contacting Microsoft Customer Service, please
reference the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

Thanks in advance for your understanding & we wish you the best in this
project.

Hope this helps!

So if it can validate one way but not through the other (both of them
Microsoft schemes), then there are three possibilities:
the website scheme is correct, the DVD is incorrect it refuses a genuine
windows version;
the website scheme is incorrect it passes non genuine windows versions, the
DVD scheme is correct.

Further deduction on my side (three genuine Windows XP Pro machines), tells
me the DVD scheme is messing up.

The DVD scheme is actually probably something that runs through the browser,
