Template could not be instantiated, Access 2007

When I try to create a new database from a template in Access 2007, the error
message is:

"Template 'students.accdt' could not be instantiated. The Table 'Students'
could not be read from the template file. The object may be in an
unrecognized format or contain invalid data."

Every database template leads to the same error (except for the name of the
database) whether I download from Microsoft or use a local template.

My Office version is "Office Enterprise 2007" which I received due to my
employer's licensing agreement. My OS is Windows Media Edition with all the
latest updates installed.

I ran the Office Diagnostic tool, uninstalled and reinstalled Access
(including disabling my virus protection during the install).

Does anyone have a suggestion on possible solution?

Humble, we saw some of these types of errors with customers who started on
the beta and later installed the RTM version on the same computer (without
first formatting the drive and reinstalling Windows). You should only be
getting this error if you are trying to create old pre-release template files
or files which are not a valid template file format.

Did you know it is possible for you to have templates installed on your
machine which are not a part of the basic Office install? Would you try
something for me? Download this template file from here
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC012253551033.aspx) and then
double click the .accdt to create the database. Do you still get the same
error?

Thanks!
-Zac.

Hi Zac,
Yes, I still get the same error. I had never used the beta version, but the
version I have is from the Microsoft home use program.

Hi Zac,
Thanks again for your persistance. It still does not work.

Since very few people have this problem, I suspect that the problem is on my
computer. As an aside, Microsoft Desktop Search does not work either. It
lists only 30,000 files on my computer while Google Desktop lists 300,000,
and it does not find any results for even the most mundane search. One of
these days I'll reformat and rebuild my system. In the meantime, I'll ask
friends to send me the .accdb file.

Well, this confirms my suspicion. The file I posted is a very simple
template. I think your base XML processing may not be set up correctly. One
thing you can try is to download and install MSXML manually. That might
help, but no guarantees.

Thanks!
-Zac.
