template downloading

I want to download a calendar template. When I try, I am told that I need to
enable Active X controls. I've gone through all the steps in each set of
instructions, and it appears that I have downloaded something (identified
only by a number), but it won't open - it only asks if I want to replace an
existing file. Thanks - Pat

It sounds like you are downloading the .cab file containing the template
when the template is downloaded in .cab file it will be all numbers instead
of a file name. If this is correct then right click the .cab file and choose
extract then you should be able to click on the template and have it open in
the correct program.

Generally templates will download and open directly in the appropriate
program...

I'm having the same problem, but I can't find the .cab file. I've done a
search, and there are no .cab files that are all numbers. The only two that
show being modified today don't seem to have anything to do with templates.
The file, under the name listed on the website, does show up in the task pane
in MSWord, but nothing happens when I click on it, and when I right click,
all I get is a "What's this?" box. I can't believe I've spent the last 2-1/2
hours trying to download one simple template!

Hi Synthylady,

Are you getting the page that says you don't have Office 2007 and asking if you'd like to download the template manually? That is
usually when you get the .cab files.

When you choose the 'save' option for the cab file at the top of the 'save' dialog you should see/select the location on your disk
drive where the file is being saved. You can choose to name the file anything you want. If you leave it as the default it's
usually using a portion of the same name from the Template page you're visiting.

For example, if you don't have Office 2007 and you try to use the Word 2007 Party Invitation template on
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC101731891033.aspx
Where TC101731891033 breaks down as
TC Template content/collection
10173189 Template filename
1033 U.S. English presentation
the default .cab file would be
10173189.cab

My download attempts don't seem to be progressing as they should. The first
thing that happens is I get a dialogue box telling me the ActiveX control has
successfully installed. (I already knew that. It successfully installed
yesterday morning after my first attempt to download this template.) Then,
the Microsoft Office 2003 setup dialogue box pops up, and I can't go any
further without entering the 25-digit product registration code. Only
problem is...I don't use Microsoft Office 2003. I have Microsoft Office XP
Small Business edition, which has been installed on my computer for almost a
year. I don't have a valid product code for Office 2003, and wouldnt want to
install it if I did. Since I can't proceed any further, I click the cancel
button, which apparently ends my download attempt. However, during one of my
many attempts yesterday, I did get the template to land in the "New
Documents" box which opens automatically when you open a new Word document.
Unfortunately, the template can't be used; when I click on it, nothing
happens. I did try clearing out the temp internet files. I also did a search
for .cab files, .aspx files, as well as the particular file name which shows
up in the "dialogue bubble" when I click on the filename. Neither search
yielded any results. I was also unsuccessful in trying to locate where
template files are stored in MSOffice.

I can't believe I'm having so much trouble downloading one simple little
template. The one I'm trying to get is "Services invoice with hours and
rate"; the file name is *TC062071081033. I got so aggravated last night I
stayed up until 2:00 a.m. designing my own template based on one from
Microsoft Publisher. However, I really do want to figure out what I'm doing
wrong, because there are many other templates I'd like to make use of for my
business. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

Hi, This is Johnbes from Microsoft.. Can you send me the URL to the ppt
template you are trying to download? When you are prompted to install the
ActiveX contro,l do you get a message that it was successfully installed?
Finally, what version of Office are you currently running with?

Thanks,
John
