Template protection error

I've created a template in Word for my sales team to track
their Account information. I discovered an error in the
template where information could not be pasted because of
the protection set in the document (set up through Tools,
Protect Document, Password).

To correct the error, I needed to unprotect that section
of the document (through Tools, Protect Document, Forms).

My issue is when I try and update any existing document
(not the template). After I un-select that section and
then reprotect the entire document (with password again) -
all of the existing information gets deleted.

Here are the steps I go through

Tools, Unprotect Document, (enter password)
Tools, Protect Document, Forms (un-select that section)
Add password, Confirm password, OK

As soon as I hit OK, all the information is deleted.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

It does to a point. I have no idea on what they mean
about the add-in, etc. Any help there would be
appreciated.

An Add-In is a template that changes how Word works in all documents when
the Add-In is loaded. An Add-In can be loaded using the Tools > Templates
and Add-Ins... dialog. The way it is usually loaded into Word is by placing
it in Word's startup folder. It is a shared modification of Word's actions.

See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, macros, etc.
