Templates from Mactopia v. Office.Microsoft

JP Mondeau

Why is it that I can open the files from the Mactopia site
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/resources/templates.aspx?pid=list&cat=2&scat=3
&catname=Finance%20Tools>, but when I download and attempt to unstuff the
..cab files from the OfficeOnline site
<http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/default.aspx> , I cannot even
unstuff? I get the error message "Error #17540 format error".

I am using Stuffit v. 9.01 for Mac and apparently cannot get past the
unstuffing stage. BTW, files downloaded from the Mactopia site work just
fine, the selection of offerings is just a bit too limiting in the financial
side.

I don't know which file you tried, but for me the Expense Budget at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010618331033.aspx?CategoryID=C
T062100751033 unstuffed properly with Stuffit 9.0.1. Actually it produced a
file with extension xlt that the Finder didn't know what to do with. After I
selected Excel as the associated application, I got it to open fine.

Same thing here: all went fine with Stuffit 8.0.2. Curiously, the ".xlt"
files opened in NeoOffice/J when double-clicked. Once I have changed the
associated App to Excel it opened fine

When opened in NeoOffice/J, by the way, there are some drop-down menus
automatically filling the cells with example data. These I did not have when
opened in Excel...

I had the same problem as JP Mondeau with a .cab file I downloaded from
Business Finance/Business Financial Planning/Bank loan request for small
business. It downloads as 01017547.cab, but Stuffit Expander can't expand it
"due to an error expanding the file" (gee!). Playing around with options in
SE doesn't help - it just can't expand it.

I could download it and it automatically unstuffed too ("01017547.dot"). By
the way, I'm still running 10.3.8. Could this be another 10.3.9 issue (if
you have already updated you OS)?

I was attempting to download and open personal financial templates for
amortization tables.
