When I try to open a template from Microsoft's web site the computer insists
on trying to run it under Office 2003 and asks for install information such
as the Product ID Code. I have a (HP) Compaq Presario which came with a trial
version of Office 2003 which I have never used. I have Office XP(2002)
installed and functional.How can I turn off the automated function which
causes this? Thanks for your help

Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Office 2003. Then after rebooting go to
Start, Run and type in

winword /r

and press enter. That should reassociate Windows with Word XP.

I can run winword from the run menu but winword/r doesn't happen for me !

any other ideas?

I uninstalled the version (which I thought was already gone) and the problem
has gone away ! thanks for helping
