The extent of my knowledge is contained in this paragraph, regarding a
"known issue" in WDS 3: "Search service depends on Terminal Services.
Therefore, Terminal Services must be running for Search service to start.
By default, Terminal Services runs in most operating system

Interesting. Complete news to me.
In Windows XP by the way, Terminal Services is called "Remote Desktop"
in the UI while the actual service is "Terminal Services". You might
know it better under Remote Desktop though.
