test environment

Anna

Hi there,

I'm ready to do some testing with my new FrontPage website before going
"live" but my webhosting does not provide a test environment.

Does anyone know if there are services out there that provide test
environments? I would love to find someone that has already gone through
the trouble of setting up an IIS server, Front page Extension and all other
goodies that's needed. All this so I don't have to do it myself! One less
thing for the novice to struggle with.

Thanks,

Anna

There are a significant number of hosting companies that host Front Page -
when you say test environment, are you looking for something free or just a
paid account to stage your sites before going live?

Hi Rich,

I don't mind paying for it as long it's within reason... but of course, if
it's free, that's even better!!

Any specific hosting companies that provide staging services that you would
recommend?

Many thanks,

Anna

Hi Anna,

Instead of getting a separate staging area just use a portion of the regular
hosting environment but as a sub web. The sub web would of couse be and
orphan with no link from the live web.

I've been a long-time customer and reseller of Interland
(www.interland.com), but they were recently hit with a significant hack that
disrupted over 80% of the customers on shared servers. The pricing is good
(I can get you even better pricing than what you see on their site). I've
not had too much experience with any other providers, although I've used a
handful of them.

Interland gives you a web-based control panel to admin the FP permissions,
supports .asp pages, databases, etc. in the basic package. Full support of
all FP 2002 features.

This isn't a pitch - just trying to point you in a direction. Good luck -
let me know if you need any other help.

I maintain about a dozen sites (all developed with FrontPage). I've
used several hosts. I have been completely frustrated with
Interland.com (dunno why I haven't moved all my sites elsewhere) and
completely satisfied with Crystaltech.com. I'm not affiliated with
either company--just sharing my experiences.
