Text box question

I have Word 2002 and every time I use the text box, it
opens this light gray box that say draw your box here.

Is there anyway to stop this version of word from doing
this? The older versions I have used did not seem to have
this feature and I could just draw the box wherever I
wanted to.

Tools | Options | General: Clear the check box for "Automatically create
drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes."
