When inserting a TExt Box in Word97 you would click on the TEXT BOX button
and then click on the screen where you wanted the box to appear. You could
than size the box.

In WordXP a box appears that says CREATE YOU DRAWING HERE and creates a
larger box aroung the text box.

How can I disable this action so that it behaves like the 97 version did?

Go to Tools/Options and on the General tab uncheck
the "Automatically Create drawing canvas when inserting
Auto Shapes".
