Hello

I have a document with several text boxes & am having problems with tabs. I
have decided to replace the text boxes with rectangles drawn around the
text. I don't want to lose the text already entered. Can I delete a text box
without also deleting the text within it ?.

What problem are you having with tabs? Note that tab stop positions
are always measured from the left margin in Word. If the text box
isn't wide enough and causes text to disappear you could move the tab
stop, via Format | Tabs. (Even better would be to create or modify a
style for the purpose of formatting the text in the text box.)

No, you can't delete a text box; you'd have to cut and paste the text
out of it first.

Hello,

The problem is that I cannot see the tabstops on the ruler to delete /move
them. I know they are there because the cursor jumps to the mext tabstop
when I press the tab key.

The default tab stops are not displayed. They are set (by default) at
half-inch intervals. You can change the interval for the default tab stops,
but it is generally better to set specific tab stops for a given paragraph
or style. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/SettingTabs.htm.

If you are referring to the Default Tab Stops every .5", they are indicated
by tick-marks on the bottom edge of the Ruler Bar rather than the assorted
other symbols that appear just above that edge when you create a Custom Tab
Stop.

Does the problem pertain to the Text Boxes *moving* when you press the Tab
Key, or to the use of Tabs *within* the Text Box?

If the former, you can go to Format>Text Box - Layout and set the Wrapping
Style to something other than In Line with Text. That will allow more
flexibility in positioning (dragging) the Text Boxes, as I get the
impression that is the root of the problem. If I'm off base, please be a
little more specific.

Clarification: Of course I meant to say that you cannot delete a text
box without deleting its contents.
