Text boxes duplicating text

J

Joan Harrison

I work extensively with clip art and text boxes using
Word 2002. Frequently, when I make a new text box, the
cursor appears in a different text box somewhere else in
the document(seemingly random). Typing appears in the
new text box as well as the previous box. Deleting the
new box cause the old one to also disappear. Why isn't
each new text box completely independent of other boxes?
I have not intentionally linked the boxes in any way.
Any help is much appreciated.

Your problem is related to text wrapping->wrapping style. When you add a
text box to your blank page, check what is the wrapping style property for
the text box.

Type a sample text, add a text box on top of it and try different wrapping
style to understand how it works. Select your preferred wrapping style and
good luck.

Wrap text around a picture or drawing object
1.. Select the picture or drawing object.

2.. On the Format menu, click the command for the type of object you
selected - for example, AutoShape or Picture - and then click the Layout
tab.

3.. Choose the wrapping style you want to apply.
For Help on an option, click the question mark and then click the option.

Notes

a.. For more wrapping styles and options for the direction of text flow
and its distance from text, click Advanced on the Layout tab, and then click
the Text Wrapping tab.

b.. If you get unexpected text-wrapping results, there are several options
you can try.

I seriously doubt that this problem has anything to do with the wrapping
style.

Hi Joan,

This is the fifth or so report I've seen about such
behavior - never experienced it myself, though. Usually,
there are apparently a lot of text boxes in the document.
Would that also be true in your case?

Apparently, Word's (especially 2002) document management
starts to get mixed up at some point.

What about converting some text boxes to frames (using the
button in the Format dialog box)?

Hi Joan,

Do you have a document where you can repeat this at will?
Could you email it to me (to be forwarded to Microsoft)
with a set of instructions on how to make the problem
happen in the document?
