Text boxes in Word 2003

I am totally confused by word 2003 handling of text boxes. In Word 97,
it is straightforward. In 2003, it says "create your drawing here". Who
wants to create a drawing in a text box? I must be missing something.
Please, just how do I insert a Text box and of course, insert text in it?

On the General tab of Tools | Options, clear the check box for the option
that refers to the drawing canvas.

John,

Tools>Options>General. Uncheck "Automatically create drawing canvass when
inserting autoshapes."

If you ever want to use the silly thing, Insert>Picture>New Drawing.

Greg and Suzanne,

Thanks a million, I had missed this. Glad to know you feel the same way.
