Text Direction is "Grayed out"

Under Format, my "Text Direction" is grayed out.

Can someone suggest why and how can I "Ungray" it?

I have Word 2002, SP 3.

My guess is that your text isn't in a table cell. If you highlight text in
a table cell and click on Format, Text Direction should display in black and
work.
