text editor for large text files

I know Notepad will not work with large text files. I would like to avoid
WordPad. I used to use TextPad but lost the license. Any free text editors
out there that can handle large text files.

What's wrong with WordPad? I used to use Word with a huge text only file - I
just had to make sure I didn't add any formatting but it suited my needs
just fine.
