I am currently working on a book cover and have been trying to fill a piece of text with an image, as opposed to having the image behind the text, I want it IN the text. I have seen videos using word 2013 where this technique is shown, yet when i click on the text fill drop down box there is no option for pictures.

To do that, you'd create the text using WordArt, then apply the image as a shape fill using the WordArt Tools.

I tried this, but it only resulted in the image appearing behind the text as opposed to in the actual letters of the text.
Thanks for your help anyway,
David.

In that case you didn't do it correctly. Done correctly, the image will appear within the letters, not behind them.
