Text IN an Image To Straight Text?

G

Greg Purvis

Hi.

(I'm not sure where to ask this so I'm trying a few newsgroups)

I have some .jpg's of text documents. Is there a utility which will work
like OCR in a scanner, helping to convert the text WITHIN the image to
straight text?

I don't have a printer working at the moment, or I'd print the .jpg's and
then scan them using OCR.

(The format doesn't necessarily have to be .jpg)

Thanks in advance for any help

Yes, if the image is not to bad a pic (not much noise and all that). Try
http://www.twocows.com/windows.html I know they have a couple of ocr
programs some place. Just type ocr in the search box at the top. As well if
you know someone with Corel Draw, the CD comes with an ocr to vector type
scan, but it is not the best I have seen. Hope this will help you.

Most OCR applications will handle images in a variety of formats from file
as well as from a scanner. I occasionally use a digital camera to grab
documents when it is inconvient to use a scanner. Text on coloured
backgrounds is difficult for OCR to handle, but otherwise you should have no
problems. Finereader 6 is the best OCR software I have used by a
considerable marging - and if you live in the UK, you would find Finereader
5 (almost as good) on the cover disc of PCWorld magazine!

Hi.

I found Transym's TOCR Viewer through TWOCOWS and that serves my needs well
enough for now.
Now that I know about Finereader, I'm looking into that.

Thanks to all for your help.
