text is repeating when scrolling through text

The problem only happens when I'm working in Word, and it involves my
external USB mouse.

Whenever I use the center scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll through a Word
document, it scrolls downwards just fine, but when I try to scroll upwards,
the screen/page won't refresh properly.

As a result, one or more lines of text will appear to repeat over and over
on the page. If I keep scrolling up, the same repeated lines of text just
continue to multiply.

These problems are usually due to a poor graphics or printer driver. First
make sure that you have the latest drivers available for both and then
reinstall the graphics driver and delete and reinstall the printer.

If this is a laptop, then you may be out of luck and the graphics card is
just not up to the task of scrolling rapidly. Word is extremely hard on both
2D graphics and printer drivers, often bringing out deficiencies before
other applications.

Further to this. Would you check that you are viewing Word with the zoom
level set to 100% and check again. Does it still scroll poorly at 100%

YES, I have tested 100%; 75% & 50%. It still shows text is repeating when
scrolling through text.

I have not tried your drive suggestion yet.

Could limited RAM have something to do with the text repeating when
scrolling through text?

Can't say anything about the RAM... More is always good, but I don't know if
it could help with that particular issue.

What I think I did notice is that it happens more often and worse when I
work on files on the network.
I guess maybe Word can't refresh the screen properly the screen while it
reads or writes (say temporary files).

So if I notice it, I copy the file and work locally, which seems to help.

Klaus

It seems that the problem occurs after installing office sp3. On a newly
imaged machine without office sp3 installed the scrolling works fine, after
installing sp3 the lines repeating problem begins. I have found that
changing the default mouse wheel scroll setting from '3' to '1' resolves the
problem, but of course slows down the user's progress.
