text links on faq page

Ed Wood

I have created a faq page on my web site http://www.lowpricecalling.com.

I have placed the faq questions at the top of the page followed by the
answers to the faqs below. How can I link the proper question to the proper
answer? I have looked at hyperlink, but do not see any way to link the two
without putting each answer on a separate page.

Please take a look at my faq page and give me some suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help, and have a good weekend.

There's one basic HTML methodology and several others that require
rather complex scripting.

Google: "jump tags" to learn about the most simplistic methodology

In FP see Help on Bookmarks
Select the start of the answer and use Insert Bookmark
Select the question and use Insert Hyperlink (place in same page)

I took a look at bookmarks before I made the post, and could not figure out
how to use them. I will look at them again. I guess that bookmarks kinda
works like hypertext in a document file.

One thing that I forgot in my original post is how to set up a jump back to
the top of the page from the answer section. I suppose you do the same with
bookmarks, right?

Thanks for the good responses. Have a good weekend.

The "jump back", as you term it, is usually accomplished
by placing a "Top" or "Top of page" or "Go to top of
page" hyperlink at the end of the section. This hyperlink
is to a bookmark at the top of the page.

For your further education, clicking the back button on
the browser will accomplish the same thing.

They really couldn't be easier. Read it again. Yes, they're like hypertext.

Yes. Just create text that says "back to top" or something similar, then turn that
into a hyperlink that points to a bookmark at the top of the page.

Using the suggestions provided by Craig, Rick, Ronx, Stephan, and Clinton, I
was able to set up my faq page correctly. However, one small problem
developed when I set up the "back to top" links after each answer. The "top"
of the page is where the faq questions begin. The header and footer (which
contain the page links) and the sidebar links are now missing.

How do I set the top of page in these items, so that they are displayed as
well?

Thanks,
Ed

Set your back to top to the header

I have tried to find the information located in the header in the html coding
on the page without success. I have tried to put the bookmark at the
beginning of the html for the faq page, but it eliminates everything on the
page except the faqs and answers themselves.

If you can give me a clue as to how to find the header html, I will work on
that. Otherwise, I am thinking about putting a link button at each "pit stop"
(after each question) back to the index page. At least, that would take them
to someplace where they can navagate from.

Again, thanks for your great help.

You will have to put a return link ("Go to top of page")
and the end of EACH of your questions. You do not have to
go into the HTML code to do any of this. If you don't
know HTML, stay out of the HTML code area unless you are
the type of person who goes around asking for trouble.

Are you using shared borders and the "header" is in the top border?

Then Tools->Web Settings->Advanced Tag and tick the box "show hidden files
and folders"

Refresh the web when asked, then find the top.htm in the _borders folder.
top.htm is the top border.

Remember the bookmark will be available on every page using the top shared
border, if you need it on other pages.

Thanks to Rick Budde, and Ronx for your response to this little glitch.

Ronx,
Yes, I am using shared borders. I took the simple route and added a "Home"
link under the "Go to Top" link after each question. Until I learn a little
more about FP programming (and I am learning something new every time I jump
in and work in FP, and especially all of the good responses to my posts), I
am going to leave the more complicated things for later web page creations.

I have finally got my web site decent for public release. Take a look at it
and critique it for me. Don't be afraid to make any suggestons. I need all of
the help I can get to make this an attractive and inviting site.

Thanks to all of you who have been so patient with me as I go through the
"learning curve".

Regards, and have a great holiday tomorrow, if you are off.

I have been having the same issues as the orignial person. I performed the
functions below. I put a bookmark in the top shared border. Then I went to
the botton of the page, typed in "Back To Top", clicked hyperlink , opened up
the boarders folder, highlighted top.htm. When I tested the link it opened
another page with just the top boarder only. I want it to create a link on
the same page just return the user to the top of the page. I have tried to
click on place in this document in the Edit Hyperlink box but my bookmark
does not appear. Does anyone have any further suggestions for us beginners.
Thanks

You don't link to a specific page, you just enter #Top for the hyperlink.
