Text overflowing shape boundaries (Excel 2007)

When creating a shape in Excel 2007 and entering text, if the text is too
long for the shape, it overflows the shape's boundaries. It is necessary to
change the font colour to something other than the (default) white to see the
problem. Is this a bug, or is there some property of the shape which fixes
this?
