Text to Columns

Having used the "Text to Columns" tool once on a worksheet (to separate by
spaces), I find I can't switch it off. Every subsequent time I try to copy
and paste some other text from a single cell, for some completely different
reason, the pasted data gets spread over many columns if there are any
spaces in the text. How can I switch off "Text to Columns" after using it?
This surely must be a bug, it's so unreasonable!

Excel likes to help by remembering your last settings. This can be really handy
if you're pasting similar stuff lots of times.

You can make excel forget the settings by closing excel and reopening it
(yechhh!!!).

Or you can do a dummy Data|Text To Columns.
Select an empty cell
put some junk in it (asdf is fine)
data|text to columns
delimited
and uncheck all the options
and finish up.

Then clean up that cell.

Thanks Dave, I reluctantly accept your reasoning. I still think it's wrong
that an infrequently used facility should be allowed to 'permanently'
disable one of the most commonly used facilities i.e. 'Cut/Copy and Paste'.
It's the tail wagging the dog!
