I received the WU notification to update my Office 2007 installation with
"The 2007 Microsoft® Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2)".
I got the installation executed on all the local WinXP and Vista machines,
but on my personal Win 2003 R2 it keeps failing..
the Office page to check for updates
(http://office.microsoft.com/it-it/downloads/alreadyinstalled.aspx) states
the failing machine is updated to "Microsoft® Office Compatibility Pack
Service Pack 2 (SP2) (versione in italiano)" but WU keeps claiming "The 2007
Microsoft® Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2)" is still not installed (as it
actually should as it always fails)
I even locally downloaded the package to check for eventual web install
corruptions, with no aid..
accessing, for instance, my Excel installation, I obviously get
Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (12.0.6341.5001) SP1 MSO (12.0.6425.1000)
references...

the MAINWWsp2_MSPLOG.LOG file indicates

Couple of thoughts that may/may not apply...

1) Check to ensure that there is plenty of drive space. (Drive for temp as
well as where the product is installed).

2) Verify that NT Authority\System account has full control of the folder
Office is installed into including the MSOCache folder

3) If the Office product or MSOCache folder is located on a SUBST drive,
then you need to undo this.
