The application Microsoft Word quit unexpectedly

That is the message that comes up when (1) double clicking on Word itself and (2) double clicking on documents on my desktop to open. I installed Microsoft Office (I have Office 2008 Home and Student Edition) and despite being able to use Excel, PowerPoint and Entourage (havent used the messenger program) I'm unable to open any Word documents or word itself.

What should I do? How do i fix this program? I need word....now!!!

Have you updated Office since installing? The current version is 12.1.2, so
if you haven't applied the updates I'd try that first. If you did run the
updates they may not have applied correctly, so apply them again. You'll
need the Service Pack 1 (12.1.0) first followed by 12.1.1. & 12.1.2, all of
which you can download directly from the bottom of this page:

Repair disk permissions & shut down for a moment after applying the updates.

If you've already done the updating or if the problem continues once they're
done, there are other possibilities to explore. Did you have a previous
version installed prior to Office 2008? Was this an upgrade or a full
installation? If you had a prior version did you remove it before installing
2008? If so, how?

The Word application is not in the correct folder and is unable to load the
correct framework. Verify that Word is located in the /Applications/Microsoft
Office 2008 folder. If it is not located in the correct folder Word will
crash every time regardless of whether updates are installed or not.
