the command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open

I get the following error message EACH TIME I open a word doc. I have
uninstalled Office completely and re-installed. I have every patch and update
installed. I searched the web for answers and I am stumped. I am an "advanced
beginner" computer user.

The most common cause is the Office Plug-in in Norton AntiVirus, which
should be disabled.
