"The disk is full" error

I'm getting an error message "The disk is full" when saving an Excel
spreadsheet to a network drive. Space is not an issue. The file is about
2MB. The available drive space is about 214GB.

This file is accessed by multiple users at once (only 1 read/write at a
time). This error only occurs for certain users. The error happens after
performing updates to the file and trying to save. We are using Windows XP
Pro.

Its not a permissions issue. These users are able to copy a file to/from
the same folder.

Couple of things I've seen suggested are

1) Disable File Caching on the Server
2) Clean out your WINDOWS/TEMP directory

Can't speak for either but you never know...

Thanks for your suggestions; I'll give them a try.

Is disabling file caching on the server likely to have a big performance
impact? Our server is used for many file types and purposes, so I'm a little
leery of that change.

Ken,

Prior to the "disk is full" error I get an error "Delayed write failure".
This seems to point to your suggestion on the caching. However, it is
interesting that some people have no problem whatsoever, while others are
getting this error. And these are suppose to be indentically configure
machines.

I honestly wouldn't have a clue - I simply googled the problem and gave you
what appeared to be some of the most common suggestions.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the suggestion. The workaround in the Article Q321733 did not fix
the issue for my users. We are on Win2k pro and office 2k STD and Pro. So
many office users from what I see in this newsgroup are experiencing this
issue. My guess is that it may have been caused by one of Microsoft's
Security patch releases.

Please let me know if you come across another fix.

I have the same problem happen in one of my XP Pro Clients but not the other
ones. Running 2003 SBS. Apparently it's a new issue, so possibly a sec.
patch problem. I see that Article Q321733 does not solve it as posted above.
So we'll just wait for another resolution.

This happen after restart of installing patches on Windows 2003SBS - KB890175
- KB871250 - KB891711 (2 INSTANCES)

I dont know if it's safe to remove with other patches going after these 4
above.
