"The doc ~ caused a serious error

V

van

Every time I try to open a file in Word, I get the
following error message, "The document " ~ " caused a
serious error the last time it was opened. Would you
like to continue opening... yes or no". I check yes and
it seems to open fine, but I get the message every time!

I am using Ofc2K on WinXP and haven't had any real
changes made to my workstation lately. Anybody know what
the cause or fix is? THANK YOU.

Hi Van,

Take a look under Tools/Templates and Add-ins and see if you have any
global templates in the list.

To determine if you are using any global templates go to
Tools/Templates and Add-Ins and see if there are any global templates
or add-ins listed. If so they are located in one of your Startup
folders. The location of the Word\Startup folder can be found under
Tools/Options/File Locations and the Office\Startup folder can be
found in the Office installation path..

Take a look in each folder and if you find more than one file move
them one at a time and try duplicating the error after each file is
moved out of the folder until you either determine which one is
causing the problem or rule out global templates as the cause of the
error.
