The edit picture option is not available?

Using Word 2003 - if I right mouse on a picture (whether it was pasted
(screen shot) or inserted (from file or clipart) the 'edit picture' option is
grayed out - not available. Under Tools > Options, the only choice I have
for 'picture editor' is Microsoft Word. How can I get this to work?

In order for Word's Picture Editor to edit the image it must be a .wmf, .emf,
or MS Office Drawing Object format. Other image formats (.jpg, .gif, .png,
etc.) aren't editable. Use Edit>Paste Special to paste using one of the
compatible formats... but you may sacrifice image quality if you do.

BTW - It's always best to have the image finalized using a legitimate
*image* processing app *before* placing it in a *word* processing doc.

Thanks! This does work...I have been mainly doing screen shots so it is
easier to just do a quick keyboard paste...is there anyway to set a default
with Paste Special? (or even with Paste?). Then I could set it while I am
doing this type of work (screen shots for a user guide).

Thanks!

AFAIK you can't set a default for Paste Special, but you can create a macro &
assign a kybd shortcut to it. If you do a lot of this type of stuff, you
might want to look into a screen grabber like SnagIt.

Hello:

Why were the other image formats (.png, .jpg, etc.) editable in Word 2000?
Did Microsoft take away functionality?
