The file menu in Microsoft Word has disappeared

I let my son use the computer for 5 minutes and now it's gone. I have
Edit, View, Insert Format but no File. Is there any way to get it back?

none of those remedies have helped. I'm running Vista if that makes a
difference. Where can I find Normal.dot I did a search and nothing
comes up.

Which version of Word are you using?

TO find normal.dot, you need to have Show Hidden Files and Folders enable in
Windows Explorer.

By default, the normal.dot is in your Roaming Profile. That's C:\, Users,
Username, AppData, Roaming, Microsoft, Templates folder.

Normal.dot is in the same place as listed but note that Microsoft does not
support Office 2000 under Vista. However, most users have found it works
fine with only Outlook causing a few quibbles.
