the function you are attempting to run contains macros or content

vwoz

I have a system that just had word XP re-installed and now when opening word
I get the following error message: the function you are attempting to run
contains macros or content that requires macro language support...you (or
your administrator) chose not to install macros or controls. If the warning
box gets closed then we are able to open documents and work with them. How
can I fix word to not receive this message every time it opens?

Dear VWOZ: yesterday I posted the same macro question you have below as a new
thread, not knowing you had asked the question before. Did you ever get any
response, or learn how to solve this annoying problem? thanks so much,

This error (which was answered just a few days ago) suggests that VBA hasn't
been installed. It was not necessarily part of the standard install for
Office XP. Run setup and choose Modify (or Change), find the items that you
know you will need marking them Install on this computer.

Dear Terry, what you write sounds definitive. Unfortunately, for as much as
I have uised word, I understand it but poorly. I would appreciate very much
a little "walk through" help. First of all I am running word 2007 on Vista.
I can't find the tools category that used to be on the old version of word.
When you say enter set up, I'm not sure how to do that. Thanks so much,

Here's the best way. Open the Control Panel, double-click Programs &
Features, find and select Office 2007. Click on the Change button (at the
top of the screen) and Office Setup will launch itself. Chose Add or Remove
Features. From the list, expand Office Shared Features, click on the little
arrow attached to Visual Basic for Applications and select the Run from My
Computer Option. Click Continue. Setup will then install the VBA code that
you need.

Not that this is NOT done in Word. Word and all Office apps should be
closed.
Also note that there is no Tools Menu in Office 2007. All those settings as
well as the file menu settings are now under the Office Button (the Pizza
slice) which can still be opened using Alt+F.

Terry, I am very grateful. This worked like a charm first time. Wow. I'm
impressed. I'm so glad to be rid of this annoyance. I'm in the generation
of Bob Dylan, who wrote his recent book CHRONICLES on a typewriter. I used
to be great with a typewriter, and I even still have a "manual upright"
museum piece. You know you're old when they build a museum for some device
you were proud to master in your youth. For me, it's slide rules. If you
know what a slide rule was. there's a mueeum to them in Illinois somewhere.
thanks again,.

I think I may be a little earlier: The Yarbirds, The Kinks, The Beatles
(Please Please Me), The Stones (Not Fade Away) and slide rules. Bob was just
a little (but not much) later. <g>
